Statistics

In 1994, the year before Breaking the Cycle began, Hartford’s percent of births to teens was 28.3, one of the highest in the nation. We’ve made progress, but as our neighborhood map below shows, the need for comprehensive programs to reduce teen pregnancies is still vitally important.

Hartford’s numbers have declined from 747 teen births in 1990 to 381 in 2005. But forecasts show Hartford’s teen population will continue to grow, and unless we can reduce the rate of teens giving birth, the potential exists for even greater numbers of births to teens in the future.
